Tom Ryan, LCPC

Tom Ryan, MS, LCPC, is a certified Gottman Relationship Therapist and Couples Workshop Leader. He comes to the task of healing relationships after years of skepticism about the effectiveness of couples counseling. Originally trained in the sciences, he was intrigued by the research done by the Gottman Institute and decided to take a closer look. Since then his practice, once focused on victims of trauma, has become largely directed to helping couples create solid, lasting and satisfying relationships. He has worked with over 100 couples using the Gottman method, even conducting Marathon Therapy sessions for couples too far away to take advantage of weekly therapy sessions. Tom has offices in Oak Park, Downer's Grove, and Plainfield, IL. To learn more about Tom Ryan, visit his website here.

Testimonials

These testimonials were from our most recent workshop.

"Great presenters & content!"

"Loved the stories!"

"This workshop was exactly what our marriage needed. A year ago we lived separately for 3 months. We did reunite, but our relationship didn't get better. In this workshop, I learned that my spouse and I have been living parallel lives. With tools, card & foundation from this workshop, I have hope. We learned a lot (and were able to practice) how to become better communicators. The content and method helped us to have less contentious and charged conversations. I am happy to have a new set of tools to honor appreciate, and connect with my wife."

"This workshop is perfect the way it is. The magic 6 hours  a week is the million dollar blueprint!"

"Overall, I think this was such a worthwhile 2 days. The research backed theories, content, & information makes the tools action based & achievable. I do genuinely think we will apply it to our relationships. The presenters were also great. Two different styles which was a great balance."

"Very helpful program. We got divorced because we couldn't get past a perpetual gridlock in our marriage. We didn't have any tools to discuss it. We're now trying to get back together & feel this is giving us the tools to try."

"This workshop was super helpful. Not that all the issues we have after a 40 year marriage were solved, but now we have some tools in our toolbox to address them. We had become deadlocked on almost all issues and now I'm hopeful we can move forward."

"Great workshop from the instructors, materials, presentations, etc. Definitely leaving with tools to help my marriage and family. 10/10 - would highly recommend. Well paced. Great content."

"It's hard to get my spouse to not take every issue I raise as a personal attack. The techniques in this workshop gave us something we both believe we can use going forward. We we're a phone call away away from divorce before this weekend. The investment was well worth it."

"The weekend was full. The presenters were experienced and kind while they challenged us, worked us hard. Effectively used subtle humor to help us engage."

"Presenters were knowledgeable and engaging. They did a fantastic job answering questions & helping individuals with sharp, realistic & perceptive responses."

"Thank you! This was very well organized. You both created an empathetic and safe space for us to explore our selves and relationship.   I loved all the stories (and incorporating personal examples was a nice touch.)

"We have been wanting to attend a Gottman weekend workshop for a long time and were delighted when a group was gathering close to home. Sinead and Mike are skilled and knowledgeable facilitators and clinicians."

"Fantastic!"

"Thank you so much for everything! I was not excited to come, but felt it was a weekend well-spent. We grew a lot. It was a great investment in the relationship."

"We valued the exercises and the speakers. Having these practical tools led to some breakthrough conversations. We have more to learn/grow, but it was really helpful."

"Well developed and executed. Fantastic presentation of The Gottman Method with nice video breaks. Overall, nicely paced and very informative. Would recommend to couples."
